Senior High COB Workcamp

JULY 1-8, FAMILY ABUSE CENTER, WACO, TEXAS

Nine senior high youth and a sponsor will be journeying with Pastor Michael to his undergraduate stomping grounds in Waco (“wayco” not “wacko”), Texas. Instead of trying to find Chip and Jojo and get jobs as crew members on Fixer Upper, the youth will be serving at the Family Abuse Center (FAC), a shelter for victims of domestic violence.

FAC “exists to eliminate domestic violence in Central Texas by offering a free, safe, and confidential place for families to begin to experience life without violence.” During a client’s stay in the shelter, FAC provides meals, clothing, case management, legal advocacy, information, referrals, domestic violence education, and individual/group counseling for both adults and children.

While serving at the Family Abuse Center, the youths’ work will include childcare, kitchen help, gardening, physical labor, repair, and assisting at the thrift store. The youth will learn about how domestic violence affects families, while they work with a nonprofit organization that is doing wonderful things for its community and those in need.

The LCOB youth will be staying at Lake Shore Baptist Church and also serving that congregation. Thank you for your support both through your tithes and offerings to the Plan of Ministry budget as well as your donations at Soup and Salad and other fundraisers that make life-changing ministry opportunities possible for our youth. Look for opportunities to be a prayer partner with a workcamp attendee in next month’s newsletter.
