This month we have one new title to share with you along with a bit of news about what our committee has been doing.

This month we have one new title to share with you along with a bit of news about what our committee has been doing. John Herr, one of our committee members, is a master of invention. Earlier this year he categorized our books by subject and shelf. A list of categories arranged by section and shelf number can be found attached to the closet door just inside the li-brary. We hope this will help you when you are looking for specific books. A new “List of Books by Author and by Title” can also be found inside our red binder.

Last month, LaRue Helm worked diligently organizing the Children’s Section in our library. We will be adding more children’s books to our library in the future. If you have suggestions for children’s books or videos, please contact any of our members or put them in box 103. While we are in the process of organizing our library, you may receive a note from us in your mail box about books that we are unable to locate. Books and cards are sometimes misplaced and other times they are just missing. Please take some time to check for missing items at home. If you can’t find the item, we would appreciate it if you would let us know.

The new book in our library this month, Same Kind of Different As Me, was donated and highly recommended by La Rue Helm. It is a New York Times Best Seller and true story about a black man, Denver Moore, and a wealthy international art dealer, Ron Hall. Denver’s first 30 years of life were spent working in Louisiana cotton fields enduring a life not much different than his grandparents, who had been slaves. One day he hops a train and ends up homeless in Fort Worth, Texas; however, this is a step-up from his for-mer circumstances. In Same Kind of Different As Me, two men from opposite ends of society tell their stories. Ron’s wife Deborah brings these two unlikely acquaintances together through her ministry with the homeless.

–Deborah Hall, Library Committee Chairperson

This is a call from the Into the Neighborhood Committee (INC) to those of our congregation who might be interested in being a part of some form of prison ministry. We are labeling our efforts as the Station of Hope and are looking for Divine guidance to lead and process this effort. We do have a number of possible avenues to consider but we want it to be developed and put into action by those who have a genuine heart for it. Therefore, we are asking those who are so inclined, to contact Calvin Wenger, INC Chair (phone: 664‑6325 or email: calvinshirley-wenger@gmail.com). At this point the only commitment will be to agree to be in conversation with those of like interest to assist in shaping what direction this ministry should take. At the conclusion of that phase, each participating person will then decide if and what path their future involvement would take.
