4:00 pm

On Saturday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m., the Starlight Tea Concert Series will host a very special guest: Essence of Joy, the fabulous Gospel ensemble from Penn State University. Note the special start time, and be sure to arrive early – Essence of Joy always draws a full house with their exuberant performances!

Essence of Joy is one of seven faculty conducted choral ensembles in the Penn State School of Music. Organized in November, 1991 by Dr. Anthony Leach, the choir performs sacred and secular music from the African/African American choral traditions. Annual campus events include Fall and Spring concerts, ‘A Celebration of Af-rican American Music Festival’ and ‘Our Gift in Song.’ The choir involves undergraduate and graduate students from many academic programs at Penn State.

The ensemble has performed throughout much of America, as well as making international tours to Poland, Czech Republic, Spain, France, South Africa, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. The choir traveled to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City, Canada in May of 2017.

Due to the early start time, there will be no meal prior to this concert. Be sure to remain afterward for the Starlight Tea, when you can meet and greet these superb young performers! As always, the concert is free with a free-will offering taken. Bring a friend!
