Maundy Thursday ‘Zoom Feast’

Thursday, April 9, 2020
6:00 pm

You are invited to participate in the first (and hopefully last) Lancaster Church of the Brethren online love feast on Maundy Thursday, April 9, at 6 p.m.

We’re calling it a “Zoom Feast,” named after the video conferencing platform that we will use to bring our congregation together. We will be able to see and interact with each other.

Pastors will guide the congregation through a fairly typical love feast order with participants eating a meal, washing hands or feet, and communing at home in concert with others. During the meal, participants will be divided into breakout groups to have table conversation with other families.

Next week each person on our congregation’s e-mail list will receive a Zoom Feast invitation via e-mail. The e-mail will include some information and a link to click on to attend. No RSVP is required. The virtual doors will open at 5:30 p.m. You can try logging on any time after that on Maundy Thursday to give time to troubleshoot any technical issues. Participation is limited to the first 100 devices, which we think will be enough to accommodate all who would like to take part. Zoom is free, but you must sign up at https://zoom.us/signup before this event so you won’t be left out.

If you do not have a computer you can participate via speaker-phone. With a phone, you will be able to hear and speak to others, but you will not be able to see or be seen. You clearly will have a fuller experience with a computer, but don’t hesitate to “phone it in” if that will enable you to participate. A phone number will be provided in the invitation e-mail. Questions? Contact Pastor Don at donfitzkee@gmail.com.

To participate fully, you will need:

A computer with a camera, microphone, and internet access. (Most any laptop or tablet should work. A desktop computer will work only if you have a webcam with microphone. Smartphones also may be usable.)

A meal of your choosing to share as we dine together. Your meal should be ready and on your table as we begin.

A basin and towel to participate in either feet-washing or handwashing with others in your home. (We hope single people will join us, and we will suggest ways for them to symbolically “wash feet.”)

Some kind of bread and juice to participate in communion.
