Mother’s Day Golf & Bike Events to Benefit Homeless Mothers and Their Children
Mothers are the focus of two days of special events May 11 and 12 sponsored by Brethren Housing Association (BHA), a ministry that works to equip homeless families with the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty.
The Mother’s Day weekend will be dedicated to two special events to raise funds for this purpose.
Golf Tournament
On Friday, May 11, a four person scramble golf tournament will be held at Par Line Golf Course in Elizabeth-town, Pennsylvania. Golfers and sponsors can sign up online and take part in contests throughout the afternoon. All golfers will be eligible to win and take home numerous prizes for themselves or a favorite “mom.”
The golf event begins with registration at 11:15 a.m., followed by a put-ting contest and 18 holes of team play. It concludes with prizes and awards over a legendary catered dinner. To enter a team or sponsor a hole or contest, call Brethren Housing Association at (717) 233-6016 or access BHA’s website at www.bha-pa.org. Registration deadline is May 4.
Spring Thaw Bike Tour
The second event of Mother’s Day weekend is the Spring Thaw Bike Tour, Saturday, May 12, for participants challenging themselves to bicy-cle 25 or 50 miles.
The bike event offers two scenic and moderately challenging rolling courses through Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Riders start together at 8:30 a.m. for the 50-mile route, 9 a.m. for the 25-mile route. Start and finish is at Palmyra Church of the Brethren, 45 N. Chestnut Street, Palmyra. All riders receive a route map and cue sheet, sag wagon support, and refreshment stops every 10-15 miles. Refreshments and lunch also will be served at the start/finish area. Riders may get sponsorships or pay their own registration and may sign up online at www.bha-pa.org or call Christopher Fitz at (717) 233-6016.
Participating in one of these ways is a way to honor a mother who has passed away or one who is living. Proceeds from both events benefit mothers in BHA’s programs.
Brethren Housing Association has been building a future with hope for homeless women and their children in the Harrisburg area since 1989. Its transitional housing program provides homeless families with secure housing and intensive case management for up to two years while participants work on goals to help them transition into inde-pendent, productive members of the community.
