Pastor Selma’s Ordination/Missions Sunday
Joel Peña, pastor of the Alpha & Omega COB in Lancaster, will wear two hats for a special Sunday at LCOB on October 27. Originally planned as our annual Missions Sunday, which highlights one of our sister churches around the world, the morning now also will include a celebration of Pastor Selma Gamboa’s ordination, pending a congregational vote.
Pastor Joel, who immigrated to the US from Venezuela, chairs the Country Advisory Team that relates to the Church of the Brethren in Venezuela (ASIGLEH). During the Sunday school hour, he will provide information and show photos detailing the history, growth, and ministries of the church in Venezuela to a combined adult Sunday school class in the Worship & Event Center.
He then will preach for a combined worship service at 10:15 (also in the WEC), which will culminate with Pastor Selma’s ordination. District Executive Pete Kontra will conduct the ordination. The service will be primarily in Spanish with interpretation provided by Alpha & Omega member Dawn Sandoval.
The District Ministry Commission interviewed Pastor Selma on September 17, and the District Board subsequently recommended her for ordination. A congregational vote at the October 13 All-Church Meeting is the final step before ordination.
In addition to the ordination service, Bob Wintsch will preach on a topic of his choosing in an 8:00 a.m. Chapel service on October 27.
