Plans Shaping Up for Winter SS Quarter

Plans are shaping up for the Winter Sunday school quarter, which begins December 1 and continues through February. Children and youth will meet as always, and here’s what’s in the works for adults:

  • Guide for Biblical Studies. Led by a variety of teachers, this class is a Bible study of the international Sunday school lesson, using the Brethren lesson guide. The winter theme is “A King Forever and Ever.” December’s lessons will focus on some texts pointing to the coming of King Jesus, January will look at some kingly Psalms, and February will turn back to the gospels for a focus on the Kingdom of God. Connie Burkholder, a retired pastor and spiritual director from McPherson, Kan., is the lesson writer. Teachers include Katrina Bridgeman, Deb Chillas, Ken Creighton, Don Fitzkee, Frank Fox, Dave Hosler, Jim Rhen, Dave Stauffer, and Misty Wintsch.
  • How Happiness Happens. Beginning on December 8, John & Sue Lines will lead a six-week study of Max Lucado’s video series How Happiness Happens in the Chapel. Lucado looks at several “one another” statements in the Bible that reveal how the happiest people on earth aren’t those who have the most but those who are willing to give the most away. (On December 1 the Pastoral Search Committee will hold a Listening Session in the Chapel during the Sunday school hour.)
  • The Wired Word. For the month of December only, Bob Wintsch will continue The Wired Word class in Room 170, pulling an event from the news and looking at it through a biblical lens.

On December 22, no Sunday school classes will meet. Instead, all are invited to enjoy food and fellowship in the Gathering Place at the annual drop-in Christmas Meet & Greet from 8:45 to 10:00 a.m. Pastries and light refreshments will be served.
