Outdoor Service and Picnic Planned for September 27

Weather permitting, we’ll worship outside this Sunday (September 27) in a combined service on the east parking lot [outside the Worship & Event Center (WEC)], followed by the church picnic. Worship begins at 10:15 a.m. followed by lunch around 11:30. Instead of live streaming, the service will be recorded and posted later on the church website and YouTube channel.

“On Earth as It Is in Heaven” is Pastor Don Fitzkee’s sermon topic, preaching from Mathew 6:9-10 and Revelation 21:1-4. The service will include a variety of congregational music and selections from the Chancel Choir and Children’s Choir. Children will sing “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High” and “Jesus Loves Me/Cristo Me Ama.” The Chancel Choir will sing “Lay Up Your Treasures in Heaven” (Choplin). Congregational songs include “Waymaker” (English and Spanish), “All Glory Be to Christ” (a hymn set to the tune of “Aud Lang Syne”) and “Build Your Kingdom Here.”

Pastors Nancy Hess and Selma Gamboa will lead worship, Chrissy Wells will provide a children’s lesson, and Hope Dunbar and Alan Ferreras will read Scripture.

For lunch, the Witness & Welcome Team will provide Sloppy Joe’s, hot dogs, chips, potato salad, macaroni salad, and drinks. Those who can, are invited to bring a cold side—salad, fruit, or dessert—to add to the table. Hand-dipped ice cream from the Lickity Split ice cream truck will top off the meal. There will be indoor and outdoor seating.

Door prizes will be awarded and all are invited to bring a favorite lawn game or just sit and visit. Some seating will be provided, but worshipers also can bring their own lawn chairs. In case of bad weather, both the service and the picnic will be held in the Worship & Event Center. If the service is moved indoors, the service will be live streamed as usual.
