Celebration of the Global Church November 17 & 18

The weekend of November 17 & 18 has been designated as a celebration of the Global Church at the Lancaster Church of the Brethren.

The weekend’s events begin with the Cross-Cultural Connections Committee inviting all families and friends of LCOB to an International Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner on Saturday, November 17, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Come and take an opportunity to taste foods with origins from different nationalities and ethnic groups.

If you would like to bring a dish to share, please let Diana Wiker know by filling out the Potluck List in the Gathering Place or in the Heritage Center. If you cannot bring a dish, you are still welcome to join us. There will be enough food for all at this feast.

Since Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on everything we are thankful for, we will begin the celebration with a time to worship God and express gratitude for all that He has done during the year.

Following the International Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner on Saturday, November 17, at 7:00 p.m. the Starlight Tea Concert Series will present a concert with international flair in the Sanctuary! Chinese pianist Gianne Ge Zhu and Brazilian flutist Guilherme Andreas will join to present The Sound of Brazilian Classical Music. This program explores the various styles of “serious” music composed in Brazil, from historical composers like Pattapio Silva and Heitor Villa-Lobos alongside pieces by living composers like Ronaldo Miranda.

Like all Starlight Tea concerts, this concert is free with a free-will offering taken. As part of LCOB’s Global Missions celebration weekend, this concert featuring fine musicians from other lands will be sure to please! Make plans to attend, and invite your friends!

A choir will sing under the direction of Emery DeWitt. A special offering will be received for the mission work in Haiti.
