Gardeners Wanted

It soon will be time to plant the church’s Give-Away Garden, and planners are looking for somebody with a green thumb to help organize and tend this year’s garden. The new Garden Coordinator could help choose what to plant, oversee “planting day,” organize others to help with watering, plant additional crops as space becomes available during the growing season, and generally keep an eye on things.

Begun in 2020 during the pandemic by Linda Byers as a safe outdoor youth activity, the small garden grows produce to give away to anyone from the community or church who can use it. Some church folks also bring in produce from their own gardens to share in the bins located on the back porch near the playground. The garden is located along two sides of the playground on the south side of the church property.
The project has become more staff-driven in recent years, with Linda and Pastor Don helping to monitor the garden during the growing season. Youth and their families have continued to help with the main planting day in May and also take turns with watering. But Linda and Don think it may be time for a new gardener or gardeners to plant some new seeds. If you think you might like to help, please contact Linda at lindab@lancob.org or 717-205-3846 to learn more.
