Starlight Tea—Epiphany Concert

Sunday, January 6, 2019
7:00 pm

On Sunday, January 6, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, our annual Starlight Tea Epiphany Concert returns as one of the most-beloved traditions at Lancaster Church of the Brethren! Each year, the Chancel Choir, the Carillon Bell Choir, soloists and instrumentalists join to take one more look at the music of Advent, Christmas and beyond. We will welcome some special guest instrumentalists as well: the Lancaster Brass Quintet, percussionist Mark Yingling, and flutist C. J. Flint.

This year’s concert features a major work by composer Stephen Chatman entitled Christmas Joy. Accompanied by brass quintet, organ and timpani, the choir will sing of all aspects of the Christmas story! In addition, the choir will sing several other anthems and carols of the Advent and Christmas seasons, and will look forward into the new year as well. One unexpected treat is Hope for Resolution by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory. This anthem, which features flutist C. J. Flint, combines the ancient chant Of the Father’s Love Begotten with a Zulu song entitled Thula Sizwe.

The Carillon Bell Choir will ring two pieces, beginning with a gentle arrangement of three different carols entitled At the Manger by Michael Helman. They will be joined by the brass and timpani in a dynamic setting of Angels From the Realms of Glory by Janet Linker and Jane McFadden.

Following the concert, join us for the Starlight Tea, featuring homemade cookies by the chefs of our congregation in the Family Life Center! Admission is free, and the joy is contagious—bring all your friends!
