Musical Associates: A Chamber Chorus in Lancaster, PA

The popular Starlight Tea Concert Series returns for its 2015/16 season with a concert by Musical Associates: A Chamber Chorus in Lancaster, PA. This auditioned chorus, under the direction of our own Emery DeWitt, rehearses during the summer months and presents concerts of challenging music that is sure to please! The concert is Saturday, August 29, at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

This year’s concert is entitled Love of My Soul, which is the English translation of Z. Randall Stroope’s Amor di mi Alma, one of the works featured on the program. The opening set of music features songs of love and praise to Almighty God, including Felix Mendelssohn’s stirring Jauchzet dem Herrn alle Welt, a setting of Psalm 100. The first half also features an extensive set from Johannes Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder Walzer (New Love-song Waltzes).

The second half features music from the Renaissance to the present day, exploring the joy and pain of love lost and love found. Noteworthy is a world premiere of a choral work by local composer Dan Leistra-Jones entitled Rise Up, My Love, setting the biblical text from Song of Solomon. There’s even a toe-tapping jazz number (It’s De-Lovely) to round out the program!

As with all Starlight Tea concerts, admission is free, with a free-will offering taken. Be sure to join us for the start of another fine season of the best in classical music! –Emery DeWitt
