“Second Sunday” to Feature Monthly Meal, Games, and Fellowship

Last summer when we couldn’t do much of anything inside with other people, a few of us got together on Sunday afternoons to play croquet on the church lawn. Attendance ranged from 6 to 25.

“Croquet on the Lawn” is coming back bigger and better this year, with the addition of a meal, additional lawn games, and activities for children. Now rebranded as “Second Sunday,” the second Sunday of each month from May through October (with one exception—see below) will be a time to build relationships with members of our church family and new friends who may join us. The third Sunday of the month will serve as a rain date.

Following worship, the Hospitality Ministry Team will provide a light lunch, and then from about 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. we’ll play croquet and other games such as corn hole, Kubb, ladder golf, Can Jam, Spike Ball, or whatever you bring. Pastor Jamie will plan some activities for children, and folks who aren’t much into games can simply bring a lawn chair and visit in the shade. You can dress down for church or bring a change of clothes.

Now, about that one exception. Because the second Sunday in May is Mother’s Day, when many people may have other plans, our first “Second Sunday” will be held on the fourth Sunday of May. That’s May 23, the Sunday slated for possible resumption of multiple worship services. So plan to come out for worship, stay for a safely served light lunch (with indoor and outdoor seating), and join in the fellowship.

At its March meeting the Church Board approved five broad goals for 2021. Using the acronym POWER the goals are to Praise, Organize, Worship, Educate, and Relate. Second Sunday promotes the fifth goal—Relate—which encourages the church to “Foster community in our church and neighborhood through events and service projects that help people to connect, serve, and build relationships.” In short, this event is intended to provide opportunities for members of our church family and others who need a church family to get to know each other in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Please join us!
